“New” Online Catalog
Last week, our online catalog got a facelift. If you are a regular user,
you may not have noticed the changes, but there are several new
features. When you first access the page, you will notice a yellow box
to the left. There will be links to your account, as well as “help” for
using the catalog. A new feature is the “NEW Libraries Info” link. This
link will take you to the information and websites for all the libraries
in our consortium, including ETSU, Northeast State, and Bristol. In
addition, there will be links to Google maps, so that you may find your
way to the library of your choice. The other most noticeable new feature
is the “look” of the listing of search results. We think it is easier to
read in the new format. The catalog website is http://libraries.etsu.edu.
If you have questions about your account, or how to use the online
catalog, contact library staff for assistance.

On-Line Test
Preparation
The Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL) has added several new features
this month. One of these is the LearningExpress Library. This is a
comprehensive, interactive online learning platform of practice tests
and tutorial course series designed to help patrons—students and adult
learners—succeed on the academic or licensing tests they must pass.
Examples of the tests and tutorials include the GED, PSAT, MCAT, and
TOEFL. In addition, there are tests for many occupations, including EMS,
firefighters, and teachers. We have wanted to offer these on-line
tutorials to our patrons for several years, but have not had the budget
to do so. Thanks to the state funding for TEL, anyone in the state has
access to these resources. The new portal for TEL is
www.tntel.info. The password for TEL is “elvis”. When accessing
LearningExpress for the first time you will need to create a username
and password for yourself. More TEL news will follow next week.

We have just received new books by many of your favorite authors. New

Merry May
This week we gather round the Maypole to welcome in the fifth month of
the year. May 1, or May Day, represents the rebirth of spring, fertility
and natural beauty. The day was celebrated in Elizabethan times by
dancing merrily around a May Pole decorated with flowers and ribbons.
Many school children still leave May baskets of flowers and ribbons at
hospitals and nursing homes in celebration of May’s arrival. Other May
holidays include Lei Day (May 1 in Hawaii), Cinco de Mayo (May 5 in
Mexico), Mother’s Day (May 11), Armed Forces Day (May 17), and Memorial
Day (May 26 and May 30). May 12 through May 17 is also Children’s Book
Week, and the library will be giving away books to all children visiting
the library that week. For more about any of these celebrations visit
the library and check out the displays.
Summer Reading

not necessary to attend all sessions of Summer Reading. Pre-school and
kindergarten age children should attend the morning sessions with a
parent or caregiver. Children in grades 1-4 will have activities and
